3. EKG

Our 12 lead electrocardiogram (EKG) is a very common test done in our office that allows the doctor to record the electrical activity of the heart. Using the information measured by the EKG, the doctor can assess the structure, level of blood perfusion, and overall function of the heart. Maintaining a patient file with multiple past EKGs, the doctor can compare a patient’s current EKG to past ones and assess how the patient is doing and determine what the next steps in the patient’s care and treatment would be. Our family practice physician Calabasas CA use advanced EKG technology to evaluate your heart health. Don’t wait, schedule your EKG appointment today.

4. ECHO

An echocardiogram (Echo) is an essential and important machine that helps Dr. Arimie evaluate a patient’s blood flow through the heart and heart valves. The test is non-invasive meaning it does not involve instruments being inserted through the skin or in the body. Instead, it uses ultrasound waves that give Dr. Arimie real time, direct information regarding cardiac structure and function. The echo provides visual images of the four chambers of the heart (left and right atrium and ventricle) and includes the chambers size and function. These images help the doctor evaluate the structure and function of the four valves in the heart (the tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral, and aortic valves) as well as the pressure and gradient in the heart.

5. Carotid Duplex

A Carotid Duplex is another non-invasive test we use to visualize the carotid arteries and their main branches which direct blood to the brain and face. This test is essential to evaluate the plaque burden in the body vasculature and a safe and easy way to monitor the efficiency of the changes in lifestyle, medical treatment, and supplements the patient is going through.

6. ABI – Ankle-Brachial Index

Ankle Brachial Index is a non-invasive test that evaluates the blood flow in the lower extremities. By measuring the blood pressure in the arms and legs and computing a ratio, Dr. Arimie can estimate the quality of bilateral leg blood perfusion. This is an easy and simple test that helps in the prevention and treatment of vascular atherosclerotic disease. Peripheral circulation issues are often silent. Let our family practice physician Calabasas CA run a simple ABI test to ensure you’re in the clear. Call now to schedule.

7. AAA

An Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) is another non-invasive test that is helpful in screening for aortic aneurysms. These aortic aneurysms are often asymptomatic for patients. They don’t know they have bulges in their aorta until the bulge grows large enough to feel. In which case, it is often too late before it ruptures, becoming a true emergency.

8. Treadmill echo

Is a non-invasive test as a combination of echocardiogram and walking on the treadmill as a Bruce protocol. Is a very helpful test in evaluating functional status of the cardiovascular system. Evaluates the exercise tolerance, exercise blood pressure and heart rate, EKG with exercise and real time evaluation of the heart function with exercise by echocardiogram. Also, screens and diagnoses coronary artery disease, cardiac arterial blockages of 70% or more. Is simple, benign and can be used as a screening on the yearly bases. If you’re unsure about your cardiovascular performance, our family practice physician Calabasas CA provides treadmill echo testing to guide your next steps. Book your test today.

9. Holter

Is a non-invasive test that records electrical activity of the heart 24/7 for 14 days. Is indicated to evaluate palpitations, arrhythmias, tachycardiac, episodes of fainting and lightheadedness. Is a patch that is attached to the anterior chest and records automatically all the cardiac electrical activities. Also, a diary is used for symptoms and later matching the symptoms with the EKG findings

10. CT coronary angiogram

Is a non-invasive CT scan with iv iodine contrast that evaluates the anatomy, presence and extend of the atherosclerotic plaques in the arteries of the heart. This way can tailor prevention and treatment of the intra arterial plaques. Is a rapid test, small amount of radiation, iv iodine contrast. As a requirement is lower heart rate for a better imaging results. Metoprolol and Nitroglycerine given before the test to optimize the imaging. If there is a borderline stenosis in the arteries of the heart, there is AI software that evaluates the blood flow through that arterial blockages, evaluating its severity and the type of treatment can be decided: medical versus more invasive with coronary angiogram and possible need for stents.

11. Nuclear scans

Is a type of cardiac imaging using intravenous isotopes to evaluate the strength of the heart and to evaluate the presence and extend of coronary artery disease. Is a type of stress test in which the imaging of the heart is obtained with intravenous isotope – Technitium. Is done as an outpatient in the hospital.

12. Referral to Bio identical Hormonal replacement

We refer our patient to several doctors that we got to know, appreciate and trust.

13. Newer approaches to IBS

A large number of people suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). This is a trash can diagnosis and many times the patients are treated symptomatically therefore becoming chronic patients with variable temporary symptomatic relief. If you accept, that if something happens on this planet must have a reason or a decent cause as an explanation then the IBS concept becomes questionable. Over time, forced by experience, we gain the ability to master finding the cause of IBS in the vast majority of cases. This is not an easy task and requires time and dedication. The patient is highly involved in the process and thoroughly educated to gain control over his symptoms and master the ability to prevent them. All this implies comprehensive evaluation of the patient’s medication, lifestyle, diet and workplace situation, since all are important in explaining the patient’s symptoms. Struggling with persistent digestive issues? Our family practice physician Calabasas CA takes a root-cause approach to IBS. Schedule your consultation now.

14. Endoscopic Hemorrhoidal Treatment

There are many treatments for the very common hemorrhoids. Many of those focus on local treatments and thus prone to failure in the long run since they address the symptoms and not the cause that forms the hemorrhoids in the first place. Again, a comprehensive approach is needed in this regard as well. Everybody desires a treatment that is not expensive but very effective and minimally painful. We offer many hemorrhoidal treatments, local management, lifestyle changes, IRC = Infra Red Coagulation and likely the best and most long-lasting endoscopic hemorrhoidal band ligation. For more information, please contact our office.

15. Upper Endoscopy

EGD that stands for Esophago-Gastro-Duodenoscopy is an endoscopic exploration of the upper digestive tract for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. This is a very safe procedure with very low risks.

Colonoscopy

Represents the exploration of the large intestine, also known as the colon. This is the site of the second deadliest cancer in the USA, hence the need for screening colonoscopy every 10 years to prevent the formation of colon cancer. At the time of the colonoscopy, if polyps are encountered they have to be removed. WHY? Polyps grow into cancer in a 10-year period, and that is why the colonoscopy has to be performed every 10 years.

AI-assisted Colonoscopy

On the wings of the newest technology.
We are on the verge of implementing Artificial Intelligence-assisted colonoscopy that will aid in polyp detection making colonoscopy much more accurate.

ERCP

Stands for endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography, meaning exploration of the common bile duct, intrahepatic biliary ducts, and pancreatic duct. This procedure is also used to extract a stone lodged in the bile duct and eventually to place a stent in order to optimize the free flow of bile in the small intestine and thus avoiding infection of the bile duct.

16. Supplements, Pre and Probiotics

A different approach here as well based on the ancient quote of the father of modern medicine Hippocrates: “Let food be your medicine.” We offer suggestions of a variety of foods and natural probiotics to ameliorate patient microbiome altogether with known conventional pre and probiotics. We blend ancient wisdom with modern science. Let our family practice physician Calabasas CA design a supplement plan for you. Reach out today to get started.

17. Coronary Angiogram and if needed stent placement, angioplasty

This is an invasive test, done in the hospital to evaluate the presence and extent of coronary artery disease/atherosclerotic plaque. It is recommended in patients with severe arterial blockages of the heart by non-invasive testing, or for patients with severe cardiac symptoms of chest pain and shortness of breath or patients that come to the emergency room with a heart attack. It is an important test and treatment that saves lives.
